Reeling from three consecutive defeats after opening the season 11-0, the Washington Huskies predictably fell out of The Associated Press college basketball rankings released Monday. The Huskies (11-3) were as high as No. 13 in both the AP and the USA Today/Coaches polls before a brutal 62-57 home loss to Stony Brook of the American East Dec. 28.
The Huskies hoped to rebound in their Pac-12 opener Friday, but fell victim to a 20-9 California run in the second half and lost 81-75. Sunday, UW fell to Stanford 68-60 in overtime.
Washington’s exit from the Top 25 leaves only two Pac-12 schools remaining in the rankings, No. 7 Arizona and No. 9 Utah. Gonzaga is No. 6.
The Huskies have only one game this week, home against Washington State Saturday at noon. The Cougars are 7-7, 1-1 after defeating the Bears in Berkeley Sunday.
