PHOENIX — Super Bowl Sunday dawned with a report that the Seahawks are negotiating with the agent for Marshawn Lynch, Doug Hendrickson, to extend the contract of the Seahawks star, which may include a big $10 million salary for 2015.
The report, by Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, claims that sources told him Seahawks bosses believe Lynch has outplayed his contract, which will pay him $5 million in the deal’s fourth and final year, and a $2 million signing bonus that counts against the salary cap.
On the relative eve of commencement of negotiations for an extension of QB Russell Wilson’s contract, the attempt to secure Lynch’s future is a major development. Lynch was unhappy with how his original deal — four years, $31 million — has fallen behind relative to his performance, which included a career-best 157-yard game against Green Bay in the NFC Championship and four years of at least 1,200 yards rushing.
He held out of training camp for eight days and earned a relatively small improvement, getting an additional $1.5 million mostly by guaranteeing money that was previously labeled as bonuses.
The report did not specify a length, only for “years to come.” Lynch will be 29 in April, nearing the customary expiration date for running back effectiveness around age 30. The new deal, sources said, is seen as a reward.
So much for the story earlier in the year that said the Seahawks had grown tired of his act.

That is sweet news on an otherwise bittersweet monday. At least it appears Marshawn’s contract won’t be the drag it on story of the summer as we painfully wait for training camp to open. Happy to have him locked up~Lynch is a warrior and so is Kearse. That would have been the catch of the day had we prevailed. Through the good and the bad( bad being an understatement word today)our team has our unbridled support. Go Hawks!
