Preparing for some losses in free agency, the Seahawks signed free agent LB Mister Alexander, who has not played in NFL the past two seasons after going undrafted in 2011 out of Florida State, then joining the Houston Texans.
The National Football Post first reported the signing.
Alexander, 27 in June, had 12 career tackles with the Texans in 2011 and 2012. He was on the roster of the Dallas Cowboys late in 2014 but didn’t play. He’s also played in the Canadian Football League.
Listed at 6-3 and 227, Alexander figures to be a candidate to replace LBs Mike Morgan and Malcolm Smith, who are eligible for free agency and may be salary cap casualties in Seattle.
Salary cap is $$143.28 million
Several websites reported Monday that, with the NFL free agent period beginning March 10, the league has told teams the 2015 player salary cap is $143.2 million, a $10 million increase from a year ago and an obvious help to the Seahawks in their attempts to extend the contracts of QB Russell Wilson, RB Marshawn Lynch and LB Bobby Wagner.
The site overthecap.com says the Seahawks have $24 million available, 17th in the NFL.
Also Monday, the Detroit Lions said they will not put the franchise tag on Ndamukong Suh, because his salary would have been $26.8 million. The Lions could still match a free-agent offer, but Suh, a native of Portland who earlier expressed interest in playing with the Seahawks, is believed to be seeking a deal better than that of Houston’s J.J. Watt, who signed a six-year, $100 million deal with Texas.
That would make fitting under the Seahawks’ cap highly unlikely.

When I first saw this signing on Twitter I thought it was saying that Shaun was returning.
