The Sounders Thursday waived eight-year veteran forward Kenny Cooper, who came to Seattle via trade with FC Dallas Dec. 13, 2013. Cooper, 30, scored three goals and four assists in 22 matches with the Sounders last season and added six goals in four U.S. Open Cup matches, earning Player of the Tournament honors. The 30-year-old Cooper had not been part of Seattle’s active roster this season, and hadn’t trained with the club in weeks.

According to several reports, the Sounders tried to trade Cooper to the Montreal Impact without success. Cooper is now an unrestricted free agent.

Cooper came to Seattle in a trade for Adam Moffat and allocation money.

Tbe Sounders return to CenturyLink Field Saturday to face the Houston Dynamo at 7 p.m.
