According to multiple reports, including this one from CBSSports.com, sophomore point guard Nigel Williams-Goss will transfer out of the University of Washington basketball program. Clay Dade, a summer basketball camp director with connections throughout the sport, tweeted Thursday that Williams-Goss already has secured his release.
Williams-Goss averaged 15.6 points, 5.9 assists and 4.7 rebounds this past season for a Husky team that started 11-0, but faded to 16-15 and failed to receive an invitation to any postseason tournament after losing shot-blocking center Robert Upshaw.
According to Doug Gottlieb of CBSSports.com, a “lack of cohesion” between Williams-Goss and the team was among the reasons Washington’s season imploded.
A native of Happy Valley, OR., Williams-Goss was one of 16 finalists for the Bob Cousy Award, which recognizes the nation’s top point guard, and a second-team All-Pac-12 selection. Williams-Goss produced 177 assists, second in the conference. He holds both the freshman (140) and sophomore (177) season records for assists.
The University of Washington has yet to confirm reports of ta ransfer, but an athletic department spokesman said Thursday that nothing is official and that Williams-Goss is “evaluating his options.”

“Evaluating his options?” Hmmm. Definitely NOT good news for the Huskies, although I can’t really blame NWG after his teammates bailed down the stretch.
Interesting that a guy who runs summer “camps” for elite prep athletes (for strictly altruistic purposes, no doubt) is the person being quoted. Four of Duke’s starters on Monday are alumni from Dade’s camps. Wonder if Coach K is looking for an elite-level point guard, since length of stay no longer matters in Durham.
If he isn’t going pro he should stay. Seems to me someone is giving Nigel bad advice. Senque Carey did the same thing, sat a year and when he could play they didn’t really need him. Granted, Arizona and Gonzaga have openings right now among others but he’s gambling he’ll crack the rotation for the team he joins. Transferring really isn’t going to accomplish much whereas if he’s the leader of the UW team the NBA will look at him. Eldridge Recasner did not make the post season as a Husky but still carved out a 7 year NBA career. Methinks he’s getting bad advice from someone. Only if he can play immediately and join a top 10 program as a starter would it be a wise move. It’s been reported that he’ll have to sit a season.
