It’s difficult to tell what this means, but Seahawks coach Pete Carroll has sold his waterfront home in the prestigious Hunts Point area of Bellevue for $6.1 million, according to public records. The deed, which King County recorded Thursday, lists the buyers as Jimmy and Patty Barrier, until recently the owners of four Barrier Motors Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Volvo dealerships.
According to the Puget Sound Business Journal and public records, Carroll and his wife Glena bought the house in May, 2014, for $5.9 million. Built in 1999, the three-bedroom, four-bath house sits on approximately one third of an acre.
The Journal provided no reason why Carroll elected to sell (maybe he didn’t like the landscaping job — it was one yard short), or if Carroll purchased another property.
One year ago, Carroll signed a three-year contract to keep him with the NFC champions at least through the 2016 season. At the time of his signing (April 4, 2014), Carroll said:
“I think it’s really exciting because it’s a statement of our commitment, of our staying power, and our willingness to do something really special with this opportunity in representing this fantastic fan base, the area, and the following that we have. The 12s have been ridiculously fun and so powerful. We feel very humbled and fortunate to be part of this.”
Hired in 2010, Carroll coached the Seahawks in two Super Bowls, a 43-8 victory over Denver in SB XLVIII following the 2013 season and a 28-24 loss to New England in SB XLIX in February. An errant pass from Russell Wilson at the New England one-yard line meant for Ricardo Lockette was picked off by Malcolm Butler, denying Seattle an opportunity to become the first repeat Super Bowl winner in a decade.
According to most Las Vegas sports books, the Seahawks are favored to win the NFC West again in 2015. They are engaged in contract talks with Wilson, slated to become one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL as he enters his fourth season.
Florida-based AutoNation, the largest auto retail company in the country, bought the Barrier stores last year, reportedly paying $107 million.
In the Puget Seattle region, Jimmy and Patty Barrier are well-known in both business and civic circles. Last year, they told the Journal they had no plans to leave the area, and now they have a $6.1 million house to call home.

No surprise, lots of waterfront up for sale. It’s what happens when owners get their tax assessment.
My guess is Pete could pluck out a couple of diamonds from the SB ring and cover his tax bill.
He’s going to be headed back to LA for his dream job.
He can’t wait for the transition from Paul Allen to Mark Davis.
Pete has no time for the beach home. I hear he and his wife can live out of his office and still have waterfront living.
They still need an extra bedroom when they adopt Russell Wilson as part of the extension.
It is hard to imagine what it means. For 200K more than he paid, after sale costs he barely broke even. Maybe someone offered him a piece of a franchise. Can’t believe he wants to go back to smog land. Could be his wife just wanted a neighborhood with fewer sociopaths . . .
