The Mariners Monday selected a pair of pitchers with their first two selections in the 2015 first-year player draft, starting with 18-year-old RHP Nick Neidert at 60th overall. Neidert played prep baseball at Peachtree Ridge High School in Lawrenceville, GA., where he was named all-region.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder was selected first-team All-America and Southeast All-Region first team by Perfect Game in 2015. He signed a national letter of intent to play college baseball at the University of South Carolina.
With their second pick, 72nd overall, the Mariners selected RHP Andrew Moore out of Oregon State University. The 21-year-old was named first-team All-Pac-12 as a junior the past season. He went 7-2 with a 1.91 ERA in 16 starts. In 10 starts in Pac-12 play, he was 6-1 with a 1.51 ERA while averaging eight strikeouts per nine innings.
In three seasons in Corvallis, Moore went 27-9 with a 2.10 ERA in 51 games, including 48 starts.
Moore graduated from North Eugene High School and was named Oregon High School Pitcher of the Year as a sophomore and junior, and the 5A State Player of the Year as a senior.
Seattle did not have a first-round pick in the draft due to signing free agent Nelson Cruz.
The draft continues Tuesday with rounds 3-10. Rounds 11-40 are Wednesday.

I’d say it’s going to be at least 4 years before we see the payoffs on this draft but based on the way Jack manages players they stand a chance of being called up in less than 2 years. Maybe even getting called up mid-season in 2016.
