University of Washington football coach Chris Petersen Tuesday signed a junior college QB for fall. City College of San Francisco quarterback Tony Rodriguez was offensive player of the year on the Region I All-California junior college team last year and was also the Bay 6 Conference offensive MVP.
“We’re really happy that we were able to find Tony,” Petersen said. “He’ll add an immediate boost to the competition at the quarterback position this fall.”
As a sophomore last year, Rodriguez led the Rams to an 11-2 record and a Bay 6 Conference championship with a 5-0 mark in league play. He completed 164 of 279 passes for 2,382 yards, 18 touchdowns and four interceptions, while also rushing for three TDs. In five conference games, Rodriguez completed 80 of 125 for 1,203 yards, 12 scores and two interceptions.
Rodriguez prepped at Brookside Christian in Stockton, CA., but missed most of his senior season due to injury. He will arrive at the UW as a true junior.
Rodriguez will join a quarterback rotation that also includes junior Jeff Lindquist, freshman Jake Browning and redshirt freshman K.J. Carta-Samuels. The status of last year’s starter, Cyler Miles, still has not been resolved. Miles took a leave of absence from the football program in March.
