The Mariners Saturday summoned OF James Jones and RHP Mayckol Guaipe from AAA Tacoma and reinstated LHP David Rollins from the restricted list. The three are numerical replacements on Seattle’s 40-man roster for LHP Roenis Elias, RHP Tom Wilhelmsen and LHP Vidal Nuno, all farmed to the Rainiers following Friday night’s game at Oakland.

The 26-year-old Jones hit .260 with 32 runs, seven doubles, five triples, one home run, 17 RBIs and 17 steals in 56 games with Tacoma. He also appeared in seven games (0-for-8) during his first stint with Seattle (June 15-24). Over his last 23 games with the Rainiers, Jones hit .298. He appeared in 108 games with Seattle last season, hitting .250.

Guaipe, 24, is in his second stint with Seattle. In 26 games with Tacoma, he is 0-4 with five saves, a 3.94 ERA and 25 strikeouts. In his last 10 appearances (since June 5), he went 0-2 with two saves and a 2.70 ERA. Guaipe made his major league debut June 1 vs. New York (AL), retiring all seven batters he faced in 2.1 innings with two strikeouts.

Rollins, 25, went 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA (0 ER, 9.1 IP) with one walk and eight strikeouts in seven appearances with Tacoma. He was selected by Seattle from Houston in the Rule 5 draft (12th selection) in December. He spent last season with AA Corpus Christi in the Houston Astros organization where he was 3-4 with a 3.81 ERA with 77 strikeouts in 27 appearances, including 12 starts.

The Mariners play the third of four against the Athletics Saturday. Felix Hernandez (10-4, 3.05) will face Kendall Graveman (5-4, 3.47).

  1. Wow, the M’s are all most approaching carnival ride status with all these ups and downs. Must be tough being a ball player.

  2. Wilhelmsen has been around for a while, didn’t know they could still send him down without DFA.

  3. So it’s the 6th inning, the so called “King” is being out-dueled by another no name hurler & the sorry sack M’s are trailing as usual….. why am I not surprised? This team is groundhog day over & over…..

  4. It is impossible for these clowns to scratch out ONE lousy run with the game on the line. 7th inning….. Seth Smith hits right into the shift like he always does & makes an out. Mark BUMbo….. what else needs to be said? Every single AB from that guy is complete garbage. 2 men on base, which is a rarity for the M’s & BUMbo flails away wildly at the first 2 pitches which of course are out of the strikezone, effectively ruining the AB & the inning. Can that guy EVER not be hitting from an 0-2 count with a runner (s) on base? This is a veteran hitter who is absolutely clueless at the plate. Unbelievable.

  5. And it’s official…… so-called “King” Felix gets beat once again by an opposing no name pitcher. I just love it when this happens, all the starts are the same….. he allows run (s) immediately & has runners on all day, while the sorry sack M’s get totally shut down by a no name 4th or 5th starter. 1 game win streak snapped as the “King” can never keep it rolling. I thought the “ace” was supposed to END losing streaks, not start them. And Seth Smith fittingly makes the final out by hitting right into that ridiculous shift again, the next time that guy hits AWAY from the shift & actually gets on base will be the first time. If these so called hitters ever actually made some adjustments & tried to hit AWAY from these shifts, maybe they could actually get on base? Just a thought….. M’s baseball is so predictable & awful to watch.

  6. Jack wasted a call up on Jones. I’m a big fan of Jones but why call him up to replace Willie and then send him down to make room for Kuma? IMO, he should have held onto Willie until Kuma was ready to joint the team. Also think Ruggs should be on the team right now. They need someone who can hit lefties coming off the bench and Ruggs can do that.
