Drew Lewis, a 6-foot-2, 216-pound redshirt freshman linebacker from Eastlake High in Sammamish, was kicked off the University of Washington football team by coach Chris Petersen for an unspecified violation of team rules, according to a statement Tuesday from the school.
Lewis, part of Petersen’s first recruiting class, spent time during spring drills with the second unit.
Lewis, tagged a red-chip selection in the Seattle Times recruiting rankings and the No. 7 recruit in the state by rivals.com and scout.com, redshirted his first year at UW after the first team All-Kingco Crest Division selection helped Eastlake to a 9-3 record and the state playoff quarterfinals. On offense, he rushed for 809 on 128 carries. He also ran track, finishing fifth in the 200 meters at state.
Lewis is the son of Will Lewis, former Seahawks player and executive now the director of pro scouting with the Kansas City Chiefs. His uncle, Tim, a former first-round pick out of Pittsburgh in 1982, is an assistant coach with the 49ers. His brother, Ryan, plays at Pitt.

Both Petersen and Romar are decent guys trying to run clean programs. In a world dominated by the Caliparis and the Jimbo Fishers, I’m not sure this recipe works anymore. Will loyal Husky alumni settle for long-term honorable mediocrity? I’d be surprised if they did.
