The Mariners Friday summoned 1B/DH Jesus Montero and SS Ketel Marte from AAA Tacoma as roster replacements for Dustin Ackley, traded to the Yankees Thursday afternoon, and SS Chris Taylor, optioned to the Rainiers following Thursday night’s 9-5 loss at Minnesota. Montero and Marte were to available for Friday night’s game with the Twins.

Montero, 25, is in his second stint with the Mariners. In five games earlier this season, he hit .300 with one run, one RBI and three walks with all of his plate appearance coming against left-handed pitching. The Twins will start LHP Tommy Milone Friday.

In 93 games with Tacoma, Montero has hit .346 with 64 runs, 17 doubles, six triples, 16 home runs and 75 RBIs with a .938 OPS. In his last six games with Tacoma (since returning from Seattle July 21), the Pacific Coast League All-Star hit .472 with seven runs, seven extra-base hits and seven RBIs.

Marte, 21, will be making his major league debut. In 65 games with Tacoma, he hit .314 with 41 runs, 12 doubles, two triples, three home runs, 29 RBIs and 20 stolen bases. He appeared in the 2015 Futures Game during All-Star weekend in Cincinnati, going 2-for-2 with an RBI while playing second base. He was also elected to start at shortstop in the AAA All-Star Game (0x2).

The switch-hitting infielder has appeared in games at shortstop (49), second base (14), center field (4) and designated hitter (1). He was signed by Seattle as a non-drafted free agent Aug. 13, 2010. He was rated as the thirdbest prospect in the Mariners organization by Baseball America entering the 2015 season.

  2. You have to be Trader Jack Z bad….. although he did actually trick somebody into taking the awful JA Happless & his 4 inning starts off this roster for an asset…..
