After playing in Kansas City Friday, the Seahawks will take a visit Saturday from veteran free agent guard Evan Mathis, according to a source with NFL.com. Mathis has been on market since his June release by Philadelphia, but may be a solution to the Seahawks offensive-line problems.

Mathis, 33, has been one of the NFL’s premier offensive linemen, according to Pro Football Focus.

A 6-5, 298-pounder from Alabama and a two-time Pro Bowler, Mathis was set to make $5.15 million before the Eagles honored his request for a release, which helped their’ salary cap situation. His high price presumably depressed the marketplace for him, but desperation by the Seahawks may prompt an offer.

NFL.com said Mathis was likely waiting on another offer, but since it has not come, will take the visit to Seattle, where room under the salary cap is small. The question is whether Mathis is willing to take a pay cut for a better shot at the Super Bowl.
