The Mariners Friday activated LHP Joe Beimel from the 15-day disabled list and recalled him from his rehab assignment at AAA Tacoma. The 38-year-old Beimel, who went on the DL Aug. 21, was available Friday night when Seattle began a three-game series against the Oakland Athletics at O.co Coliseum.
Beimel, suffering from posterior inflammation in his left shoulder, has appeared in three games since beginning his rehab assignment Aug. 30. He has allowed three earned runs in 2.2 innings, including one scoreless frame Thursday night at Salt Lake City.
With Seattle this season, Beimel is 2-1 with one save and a 4.78 ERA in 42 appearances. He was 2-1 2.50 (10 ER, 36.0 IP) in his first 37 appearances, but allowed runs in five consecutive games prior to being placed on the DL. In all, 27 of his first 37 outings were scoreless.
Beimel signed a minor league contract with Seattle April 2 and began the season in extended spring training before joining the Rainiers. He was 1-0 with with five strikeouts in his first three appearances prior to being selected to Seattle.
With the Mariners last season he went 3-1 with a 2.20 ERA in 56 appearances while limiting left-handed hitters to a .188 batting average and a .217 on-base percentage.
LHP Edgar Olmos (1-0, 2.13) will start for Seattle Friday night at 7:10 p.m. opposite RHP Aaron Brooks (1-1, 5.47).
The Mariners are 9-4 against the Athletics this season, including 4-3 at O.co Coliseum.

LHP Joseph Pistorese, who has been pitching for Class A Everett in the Mariners organization, has been suspended by MLB for 50 games for testing positive for amphetamines. The Mariners selected Pistorese in the 15th round of the 2015 June draft (515th overall). For Everett, he went 6-0 with a 1.28 ERA in 16 games.
