The Seahawks Wednesday reached an injury settlement with Robert Turbin, making the fourth-year running back out of Utah State a free agent. After he cleared waivers the past weekend following a sprained ankle in the third preseason game, the Seahawks placed Turbin on injured reserve, where he would have been lost for the season. The settlement allows him to pursue an NFL job after he’s declared healthy in five or six weeks.
Turbin’s injury allowed the Seahawks to sign RB Fred Jackson, released by Buffalo, to a one-year, $900,000 deal. The third running back for Sunday’s opener is rookie free agent Thomas Rawls.
Turbin could return to the Seahawks, but that’s not likely since NFL rules mandate that a player must wait six weeks after he is cleared to play to re-sign with the team that placed him on IR. That means Turbin is probably headed elsewhere and, unless Turbin signs a long-term deal with another club, he will become a free agent following the 2015 season.
The Seahawks selected Turbin in the fourth round of the 2012 draft. The 5-foot-10, 222-pounder rushed for 928 yards and caught 43 passes for 427 yards and three touchdowns in 48 career games.

JS has overall been such a great draft guru, yet with the failures of Michael and Turbin it looks like he needs some help at RB. Jackson will be a step up for this year, so maybe this is the route to take in the future. Pick up a known quantity with an experienced RB who is past his prime, to be the #2 back. It is certainly a cap friendly route to go.
We are constantly reminded that this NFL Conglomerate is but a business and the Turbo example concludes this.This RB has only known a Seahawk uniform yet he now finds himself with a sprained ankle/without a team.I personally will miss the affable kid.
Robert has done everything asked of him yet is no longer their back up because the FO decided to snap up an aging back who toiled his whole career in another conference 2700+miles From here in Buffalo 3 time zones and many postal codes away.
Russ Wilson has been Turbs road roommate his whole pro career and has said some kind things about Turbin’s ability and value.
I enjoyed his willingness to do the dirty work in run blocking/pass protecting for this team in his 3 yrs here without fanfare.
Is this a great move for the club?Did we save some bucks with Robert or is it about a coin flip in difference in Securing Jackson for 9 bills?
I am sure we will come to love Fred’s Tenacity and can do attitude as the Bills fans did.

Turbo walks into a bar and asks the first lady he see’s, “Hey baby, you know a veterinarian? ….’cause these pythons are sick!”
Yeah, those big ol’ guns of his never ceased to amaze me. But unfortunately, those were the only things that amazed. All accounts of the hard working, high-effort, very coachable young man aside, he just wasn’t worth the cap hit and shelf time on I.R.
Perhaps he’ll prove me wrong on another team, but I believe (and presume so finally did the Seahawks) that Turbin reached his ceiling as a solid but unspectacular back who doesn’t break tackles particularly well and seldom gets into the second level of defense.
Rawls seems more promising; Rod Smith (practice squad) reminds me of Chris Warren; and look for the Hawks to go after a RB in next year’s draft.
