Mariners 2B Robinson Cano underwent surgery Tuesday at Philadelphia’s Vincera Institute to repair both a right side and left side core-muscle injury (hernia), according to the club. Cano’s recovery is expected to take six weeks, and he should be ready for the start of spring training in February.

Canó, 32, was diagnosed with a core muscle injury on his right side in late September. During his pre-surgery exam with Dr. William Meyers, an additional MRI was performed that revealed a second core muscle injury on his left side.

Canó hit .287 with 82 runs, 34 doubles, one triple, 21 home runs and 79 RBIs in 156 games (155 starts) the past season. In his final 82 games, he hit .330 with 52 runs, 15 doubles, one triple, 17 home runs and 55 RBIs.
