Washington jumped out to an 18-13 lead over Texas but couldn’t sustain its momentum and lost to the Longhorns 82-70 Thursday night in the Battle 4 Atlantis at Paradise Island, Bahamas. The Huskies, who beat the Longhorns in Shanghai and started the season 3-0, have dropped two in the tourney (box).
Essential moment
The Huskies closed to 57-53 with 10:20 remaining on an Andrew Andrews free throw, but the Longhorns extended their lead to 70-57 over the next four minutes. When Noah Dickerson, Washington’s best offensive player inside, fouled out with nine minutes to play, Washington did not have enough firepower to catch up.
Offense/Defense
The Huskies couldn’t overcome 30 fouls, 18 turnovers and Texas’s 18 second-chance points. Andrews hit 6 of 13 shots, dropped in three 3-pointers, scored 20 points and added six rebounds and five assists. He was one of four Huskies in double figures. Marquese Chriss added 15, Dejounte Murray 13 and David Crisp 13 off the bench, including a trio of 3-pointers.
In addition to Dickerson, Chriss and Malik Dime fouled out and two other Huskies, Matisse Thybulle and Murray, had four apiece.
The Huskies shot 40.7 percent from 2-point range and 41.7 from behind the arc (10-for-24), but were outrebounded for the first time this season, 40-36. Murray led the Huskies with nine boards.
The Huskies allowed Texas 37 bench points, including 15 from Eric Davis Jr., who topped the Longhorns.

Noteworthy
Texas scored 18 second-chance points to only three for the Huskies . . . In the first meeting between the teams two weeks ago in China, UW won 77-71. The last time the Huskies played the same non-conference foe twice in the same season was 1979-80 vs. Seattle University.

The Huskies play their third game in the tourney’s three days Friday at 6:30 p.m. PT against Charlotte, a loser to Michigan 102-47 Thursday night.
