The Mariners Wednesday acquired 1B Adam Lind from the Milwaukee Brewers for minor league right-handed pitchers Carlos Herrera, Daniel Missaki and Freddy Peralta. GM Jerry Dipoto, having traded Mark Trumbo and Logan Morrison, had targeted Lind since the opening of the winter meetings in Nashville this week.
“Adam lengthens our lineup as a first baseman who gives us on-base percentage and power,” Dipoto said. “First base was a spot we came here looking to fill, and we feel that Adam is a good fit for us.”
Lind, heading into the final year of a contract that pays him $8 million in 2016, hit .277 with 20 home runs and 87 RBIs last year, his first in Milwaukee. He spent the previous nine seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Lind, 32, had a .360 on-base percentage to go along with a .460 slugging average (.820 OPS) last season in 149 games. He played 138 games (including 134 starts) at first base.
Lind also drew 66 walks, seven more than any Mariners player in 2015 (Nelson Cruz, 59), while his on-base percentage would have ranked second on the team behind Cruz (.369).
Lind led the Brewers in games, doubles, RBIs and walks, and produced his fifth career season of 20 or more homers. All 20 came off right-handed pitching. He also hit .336 with runners in scoring position.
Since making his MLB debut in 2006, Lind is a career .274 hitter with 166 home runs and 606 RBIs in 1,102 games.
Herrera, 19, began professional career with the DSL Mariners-1 in 2015, going 4-2 with a 3.26 ERA (29 ER, 80 IP) in 14 starts. He limited opponents to a .228 average, while walking 13 and striking out 73. He was signed as a non-drafted free agent July 21, 2014.
Missaki, 19, was limited to six starts due to an injury with A Clinton last season. Missaki was signed by Seattle as a non-drafted free agent May 6, 2013.
Peralta, 19, went 2-3 with a 4.11 ERA in 11 games, including nine starts in the Arizona League. Peralta was signed as a non-drafted free agent April 18, 2013. Over parts of three minor league seasons he is 6-12 with a 3.58 ERA.
To make room for Lind on the 40-man roster, the Mariners designated for assignment infielder Andy Wilkins, who was claimed off waivers from Baltimore six days ago. Seattle has 10 days to trade, release or outright Wilkins to the minors.

Has consistent numbers on the positive side and in the last year of his deal. Hope he doesn’t follow the trend of most other M’s free agents and turn out to be a trading deadline deal because the M’s are out of the playoff race.
Good news is: we KNEW it was hopeless under Z and Bavasi. In April. Every frikkin year for decades.
This is all new– new process and clear objectives and modern analyses. We don’t know it’ll fail — like we always did before. I’ll hang in there until late July with this new, developing transistion to anything-but-the-Lincoln-logs way. It’s surpriosing and fun nearly everyday, and we’re not even close to “pitchers and catchers report” yet. Cool.
Struck out once in every four AB. That sure beats 3x a night. next question: Can he hit AL pitching?
Those numbers look pretty good in the sixth spot of the batting order.
