Seahawks promote WR Kasen Williams

The shorthanded  Seahawks promoted WR Kasen Williams Saturday to the active roster for Sunday’s game at the Clink against the St. Louis Rams. The move was expected after Doug Baldwin missed much of the practice week with a hamstring, although he practiced Friday. The Seahawks may not know until game time whether Baldwin is available.

Williams, the former Skyline High School and University of Washington star, spent the  season on the practice squad after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent in June. He was released during the final cut after training camp and re-signed to the practice squad in September.

Williams played in 48 Huskies games, catching 162 passes for 1,915 yards and 15 touchdowns in his four seasons. A brutal ankle injury during his junior season damaged his senior season as well as his draft standing.

The Seahawks lost WR B.J. Daniels, the first option off the practice squad, last week when he was taken by the Texans to be their emergency quarterback. The receiver position was already short with the injury losses of Ricardo Lockette and Paul Richardson.

To clear a roster spot, the Seahawks placed tight end Anthony McCoy on injured reserve. He played in one game after being re-signed earlier this season, against Baltimore, when he had a high-ankle sprain.

Williams joins fellow Huskies Jermaine Kearse and Kevin Smith at  the receiver position.
