The Seahawks have signed 18 players to futures contracts, which include 13 who were on the 53-man active squad or the 10-man practice squad for at least part of 2015. Since practice squads dissolve after the season ends, the only way teams can keep such players is to sign them to futures contracts for the 90-man roster that begins with new business year March 9.

C Drew Nowak  is the most prominent name, having started six games last season in a failed effort to replace traded Max Unger.

Familiar to Huskies fans is DE Josh Shirley, who was for active five games last season with Tampa Bay. Shirley played at Montlake from 2010-13, registering 18 career sacks, but was mostly a backup after a promising start as a freshman. He left school after his junior year and went undrafted.

The list:

Cornerbacks: George Farmer, Stanley Jean-Baptiste, Trovon Reed
Safety: Robert Smith
Defensive linemen:  Justin Hamilton, Josh Shirley, DeAngelo Tyson
Tight ends: Brandon Cottom, Ronnie Shields
Wide receivers: Deshon Foxx, Tyler Slavin, Antwan Goodley, Douglas McNeil III
Offensive linemen: Drew Nowak,  Will Pericak, Terry Poole
Quarterback: Phillip Sims
Long snapper: Andrew East

  1. I’d like to see Unger brought back if anything. Word is the Saints will cut him due to his contract. Browner will be cut as well but since he has two strikes on him for drug testing I don’t see the team re-signing him. Interesting how many ex-Huskies the Hawks seem to pick up.

The thought of seeing Max back in a Seattle uniform brightens my day and that path would be filled with irony to add in the Jimmy Graham Saga.
Would Unger be willing to accept a whole lot less to return? It sure wouldn’t be a lock but I would never have guessed C.Micheal would be a return player either.
It will be an interesting development to follow in March for sure.
