Seahawks add 5 rookies; no deal for UO’s Adams

From a list of more than 40 undrafted, unsigned players at rookie mini-camp last week, the Seahawks signed Monday to the 90-man roster CB Jamal Marshall, LB Pete Robertson, TE Ronnie Shields, WR Tyler Slavin and FB Taniela Tupou, the latter a defensive tackle from the University of Washington.

A notable player not on the list was Vernon Adams, the Eastern Washington and later Oregon quarterback who sought the backup job to Russell Wilson. He was in camp on a tryout basis, and said Friday he would try to catch on with the Washington Redskins next weekend if he did not sign with Seattle.

The Seahawks earlier signed two undrafted free agent quarterbacks, Trevone Boykin of Texas Christian and Jake Heaps, the former Skyline High star. If veteran free agent Tarvaris Jackson does not return to Seattle, those two could be the backup/practice squad QBs.

Tupou, 6-1 and 284 pounds from Everett’s Archbishop Murphy High School, was a captain and second-team All-Pac-12 selection for the Huskies. But he didn’t play on offense. He was voted UW’s most inspirational player. He’s the only fullback on the Seahawks roster because last year’s tandem, Derrick Coleman and Will Tukuafu, remain free agents.

To make room, the Seahawks released DT A.J. Francis, DT Lars Koht, S Robert Smith and waived as injured WR Jeff Fuller and CB Mohammed Seisay, the latter acquired in August from Detroit for a sixth-round pick.

Francis played in two games last season and Seisay was on injured reserve. Fuller and Smith signed futures contracts in Feburary and Koht signed as an undrafted free agent last week.
