Seattle held a 2-1 lead entering the sixth inning. Leading off, 2B Robinson Cano hit his 12th double of the season, dropping a fly ball just inside the right field line. Orioles pitcher Tyler Wilson intentionally walked 3B Kyle Seager to get to Lind, who worked to a full count before pushing a high fly to the opposite field in left, barely clearing the wall, to give Seattle a 5-1 edge.
Hitters
CF Leonys Martin added his seventh home run with a two-run shot to right in the ninth. Martin finished 2-for-3 with a walk. DH Nelson Cruz went 1-for-4 with an RBI, while SS Ketel Marte was 2-for-3, scoring twice.
Pitchers
Nathan Karns pitched five innings of four-hit baseball. Karns (4-1) gave up no walks and struck out five, allowing one run.
Joaquin Benoit pitched for the first time since being coming off the disabled list (shoulder stiffness). Benoit gave up two walks, a hit and a run in the eighth and had the bases loaded with one out. But CF Adam Jones had an RBI groundout and Chris Davis flied out.

Seattle is 6-8 when Cruz plays right and 17-8 when he’s the DH.

Agreed – this winning thing feels new and weird, but good. The eighth where Benoit loaded the bases with one out…. that felt like the old days. But hey, we got out of it and won this one! What a concept!
Only 12 of their first 53 games may be played against teams that currently have a winning record (the next 13 feature very weak opponents) but they are 7-5 against those winning teams. That bodes well for 85-88 wins. I’m not sure about 90 wins. I have a feeling 90 wins will take the division though, if they make it. But there is a lot of parity out there in the AL. And injuries are always a factor.
