As much effort as Seahawks QB Russell Wilson puts into crafting his image, there’s some things beyond his considerable control.
Documents in a $15 million defamation lawsuit filed in February by his fiance, pop singer Ciara, against her one-time boyfriend, Future, disclosed that he made threats on Wilson’s life via social media and a song lyric. The claims were in a story by TMZ Sports based on court filings the website obtained.
In recent documents, Ciara cites a lyric she said is directed at Wilson: “Tryna f— my baby mama, dog what’s up with you? You gon’ make me get that heat, I’m pulling up on you.” He also had a tweet that showed two footballs followed three guns.
Ciara, who announced her engagement in March to Wilson via Instagram, had a child in May 2014 with Future before they separated. Wilson has been photographed caring for the child, which Future in a radio interview called “a publicity stunt.”
The documents called Future’s conduct “frightening” and “socially irresponsible . . . where there has been a recent rash of gun violence.”
Unclear is how the threats impact her defamation suit. Mike Florio, an attorney who runs Profootballtalk.com, speculated that “while not directly relevant to the question of whether Future made untrue statements about Ciara that violate civil liability standards, as a public figure Ciara needs to prove that Future made untrue statements with malice. Threatening to kill the man she’s currently engaged to would potentially count as evidence of malice.”
