The Mariners Wednesday optioned rookie OF Guillermo Heredia to AAA Tacoma and will make a corresponding roster prior to Wednesday night’s (7:10 p.m. first pitch) third and final game against the Detroit Tigers at Safeco Field. Heredia hit .250 with one homer and three RBIs in 12 games.

Heredia, 25, made his MLB debut July 29 at Wrigley Field against the  Cubs. He collected his first hit (and RBI) Aug. 2 vs. Boston. In his last eight games, Heredia hit .350 with one home run, four walks and two strikeouts. Seattle is 7-1 in his last eight games. Heredia had a career-high three hits (3-for-7) in Tuesday night’s 15-inning win over the Tigers.

Prior to being selected from Tacoma July 29, Heredia hit .340 with two runs and 13 RBIs in 26 games. He began the season at AA Jackson and was promoted to the Rainiers June 23. Heredia signed with Seattle March 1 as an international free agent. He played in Cuba from 2009-2014.

The Mariners, who have won a season-high five games in a row, will start RHP Felix Hernandez (6-4, 3.55) against RHP Justin Verlander (12-6, 3.52). Seattle is seven games behind Texas in the AL West, 1.5 ahead of third-place Houston and 2.5 behind the Red Sox for the second wild card.
