Sophomore David Crisp knocked down all four of his 3-point shots in the stretch and finished with 26 points to lead Washington to a 94-88 victory over Long Beach State Tuesday night in front of 6,568 at Alaska Airlines Arena. The Huskies (3-1) missed 13 consecutive 3-pointers to start the game. (box).

After withstanding 10 3-pointers by Long Beach State, Washington forced consecutive turnovers with six minutes to play. Matisse Thybulle followed each with a 3-pointer as Washington turned a two-point deficit into a 76-68 lead with 5:10 remaining.

Crisp then went on his long-distance spree en route to a career high. Noah Dickerson contributed 23 points, 17 in the first half, and added a team-high seven rebounds. Freshman Markelle Fultz tallied 21.

The Huskies trailed for the first 17 minutes, but a 14-2 run just before halftime that included eight points from Dickerson got them back in the game.

“It just wasn’t falling, but in the first half, we were guarding,” coach Lorenzo Romar said. “That allowed us to stay in the game. We talked to our team about it: The shots aren’t always going to go in.

“The second half, we did start making shots and I think we forgot about playing defense at that point. Our identity shifted all of a sudden, where we had an offensive mindset.”

The Huskies shot 47.1 percent from 2-point range and 38.1 percent from behind the arc despite the early misses. Washington out-rebounded Long Beach State 31-28 and forced 23 turnovers while committing only 10.

Evan Payne topped Long Beach State with 19 points and Noah Blackwell added 12, including four of five behind the arc.

The Huskies head to Las Vegas for their first games away from home this season, playing Western Kentucky to open the Global Sports MTE tournament Friday at 5 p.m.

  1. Yet another “no D” game. Has Romar even heard the term “defense”? These guys are going down the same road as all the other recent has been Romar teams – All O, no D and NO NCAA. They are going to get SPANKED when they play decent teams.
