Marcus Marshall hit a runner on the baseline two clicks before the clock expired, giving the Nevada Wolfpack an 87-85 victory over Washington Sunday night at Alaska Airlines Arena (box). The Huskies (4-5) have dropped four consecutive games.
Washington trailed 46-41 at intermission, fell behind by 11 midway through the second half, but battled back to tie it 85-85 on a pair of Markelle Fultz free throws with 12 seconds remaining.
Marshall, who finished with a game-high 32 points (11-for-24 shooting), then drove the left baseline and knocked down the winning jumper.
Sophomore guard David Crisp countered a litany of Washington defensive lapses by scoring all 21 of his points in the second half, but the Huskies gave up too many easy baskets to the Wolfpack, who have three consecutive victories over Washington.
“We just gave them too many extra opportunities,” said coach Lorenzo Romar. “That was the difference down the stretch. When you do that, you open yourself up to shots like (Marshall’s game winner). We did a nice job in the second half at battling back, and David Crisp did a great job of getting us back in it. But we couldn’t finish it.”
Crisp scored 12 points during a 3½-minute stretch.
Nevada pulled down 17 offensive rebounds to Washington’s eight, leading to 19 second-chance points.
“We just weren’t physical enough on the glass as we should have been,” said Romar.
The Huskies shot 56.1 percent and made 10 of 18 3-pointers, but lost the battle of the boards 34-30 and were outscored by 11 from the free throw line.
Fultz, who had 15 points in the first half, tallied 21 and added five rebounds, a team-high eight assists and three steals. But the star freshman had only one field goal in the final 10 minutes. Noah Dickerson led Washington with seven rebounds.
The Huskies are off until next Sunday when they host Western Michigan ( 5 p.m., Pac-12 Networks).
