The Mariners Friday waived RHP Arquimedes Caminero in order to allow the 29-year-old reliever to pursue an opportunity in Japan. Caminero went 1-1 with a 3.66 ERA in 18 appearances with Seattle last season after he was acquired from Pittsburgh Aug. 6 for two minor-league pitchers, LHP Jake Brentz and RHP Pedro Vasquez.
The move leaves Seattle’s MLB 40-man roster at 39 players.
Caminero went 2-3 with one save and a 3.56 ERA with in 57 relief appearances with Pittsburgh and Seattle. With Pittsburgh, he was 1-2 with one save and a 3.51 ERA in 39 relief appearances.
In parts of four MLB seasons, Caminero is 7-5 with a 3.83 ERA in 149 games, all relief appearances, with Miami (2013-14), Pittsburgh (2015-16) and Seattle (2016). He was signed by the Florida Marlins as a non-drafted free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2005.
