A memorial service for Bob Walsh will be held Saturday, March 11 from 2-4 p.m. at Impact Hub Seattle, 220 Second Ave. S. A Seattle-based sports events producer and entrepreneur, Walsh passed away Jan. 23 from a respiratory illness in Istanbul, Turkey while on a business trip. He was 76.

Walsh served as assistant general manager of the Seattle SuperSonics in the early 1970s, briefly worked as a sports agent and eventually opened his own consulting company, Bob Walsh & Associates (later Bob Walsh Enterprises).

From the early 1980s through the mid-1990s, BWE brought more than 100 national and international events to Seattle, including three men’s NCAA Final Fours (1984, 1989, 1995). BWE also hosted two women’s Final Fours in Tacoma and created the Emerald City Marathon.

BWE also partnered with Turner Sports in 1990 and hosted the Goodwill Games, a sports and cultural festival that attracted athletes from 54 nations competing in a mix of 23 Summer and Winter Olympic sports.

Walsh, who subsequently did business and consulting work in several of the countries in the former Soviet Union, was inducted into the State of Washington Sports Hall of Fame in 2013.
