University of Washington head football coach Chris Petersen Wednesday hired Scott Huff as his new offensive line coach. Huff, who worked with Petersen for eight years at Boise State, replaces Chris Strausser, who departed earlier this week to become offensive line coach of the Denver Broncos.
“I’ve known Scott as a player and as a coach for a long time,” said Petersen. “He was one of my first hires as a newly-appointed head coach. We’re just thrilled to have him join us here.”
A Boise State alum, Huff spent 11 seasons with the Broncos. He started 40 games at center between 1999 and 2002, the last two years of which Petersen was Boise State’s offensive coordinator.
“We are extremely familiar with him as a coach and as a person,” Petersen continued. “Not only does he fit our style of play, but also our culture.”
Last year, Huff worked as the Broncos’ co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. He’d previously served as tight ends coach in 2006 (Petersen’s first season as head coach), offensive line coach from 2007 to 2009, tight ends coach again from 2010 through 2013 and as special teams coordinator in 2012 and 2013.
Last year, Boise State placed two offensive linemen on the All-Mountain West Conference first team while two others earned honorable mention. The Broncos led the MWC (and were 21st in the nation) in total offense with an average of 472.8 yards per game and the o-line allowed only 19 sacks in 13 games as Boise finished the year 10-3.
A native of Phoenix, Huff earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2002 and his master’s in secondary education from Arizona State in 2005.
