The 22-year-old sister of Boston Celtics and former University Washington star Isaiah Thomas was killed in a one-car crash at 5 a.m. Saturday on I-5 in Federal Way. Chyna Thomas, of Tacoma, was traveling southbound near 288th Street when her car went off the road, landed atop a highway barrier and hit a sign post head-on, according to the Washington State Patrol. She was not wearing a seat belt.
The Tacoma News Tribune quoted WSP trooper Nick King as saying the vehicle, a 1998 amry, was being driven normally.
“All of a sudden it started to drift very casually onto the left shoulder,” he said. The car traveled about 50 feet partly off the roadway until it hit a Jersey barrier. “That vaulted the vehicle head-on into the sign post.”
The Celtics play the Chicago Bulls Sunday in the NBA playoffs. The Celtics tweeted out condolences:

Isaiah Thomas was a Curtis High School graduate who played three years with the Huskies before being drafted into the NBA, where this season he became one of the most valuable players in the league.
