For the fourth time in five years, Seahawks GM John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll failed to make a pick in the first round of the NFL draft. What they did instead was make a pair of trades, with the Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers, to acquire additional selections. Seattle enters the remainder of the draft Friday and Saturday with 10 selections after starting it with seven.
Trade No. 1: Holding the 26th pick, the Seahawks swapped it to the Falcons for Atlanta’s first-round pick, No. 31, plus selections in the third (95th) and seventh (249th) rounds.
Trade No. 2: The Seahawks sent the 31st choice acquired from Atlanta to NFC West rival San Francisco for a second-round choice (34th overall) and a fourth-round pick (111th).
With such a bounty over the final two days, the Seahawks also are in position to move up should the right deal come along.
“We won’t be turning down any telephone calls,” Carroll said after the first round concluded Thursday, adding that the Seahawks have first-round grades on “several” players who have yet to be drafted.
The Seahawks have six Friday, two in the second round (34th and 58th) and four in the third (90th, 95th, 102nd and 106th). Saturday, the Seahawks are slated for one in the fourth round (111th), one in the sixth (210th) and two in the seventh (226th, 249th).
Seattle has not used its own No. 1 pick in the first round since 2011, when it selected OG James Carpenter of Alabama. From 2013-15, Seattle tradedits first-round pick, either for players (WR Percy Harvin, TE Jimmy Graham) or picks in later rounds. Last year, the Seahawks had the same sequence — trading out of 26th for 31st, that with Denver, then drafting OG Germain Ifedi of Texas A&M.
Friday’s second and third rounds start at 4 p.m. PT.

IIRC Irvin was a 2012 draft pick.
