The Mariners Friday recalled LHP Zac Curtis from AA Arkansas and, to make room on the club’s 25-man MLB roster, optioned RHP Chase De Jong to the AAA Tacoma Rainiers. Curtis was available to the Mariners (33-35) for Friday night’s series opener (three games) against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field.

Curtis, 24, is on his second stint with the Mariners, previously appearing in two games in relief, May 11-15. The 5-foot-9, 192-pound Curtis has spent the majority of the season with Arkansas, going 0-2 with seven saves and a 2.66 ERA.

A native of Panama City Beach, FL, Curtis was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the sixth round of the 2014 draft raft out of Middle Tennessee State University. The Mariners acquired Curtis from Arizona along with INF Jean Segura and OF Mitch Haniger in exchange for RHP Taijuan Walker and INF Ketel Marte Nov. 23.

De Jong 23, allowed one hit, walked two and struck out two in four scoreless innings Thursday at Minnesota. In four stints with Seattle, he is 0-3 with a 6.35 ERA in seven games, including six starts.

The Mariners started LHP James Paxton (5-1, 2.25) Friday opposite RHP Tyson Ross (no record) of the Rangers.
