Nahziah Carter, a 6-foot-6, 185-pound shooting guard/small forward from Rochester, NY., will join the University of Washington basketball program this summer after enrolling in classes, coach Mike Hopkins announced Monday. Carter was the 29th-ranked shooting guard in the country last year by Scout.com.
“Nahziah is an unbelievable athlete who has the ability to get to the rim and attack with the best of them,” said Hopkins, who replaced Lorenzo Romar following the 2016-17 season. “He plays way above the rim and he’s just scratching the surface of what his potential could be. Being from New York, I’ve been following him for a while and have seen him consistently improve and develop.
The 16-year-old Carter attended Bishop Kearney High School and averaged 15.1 points per game as a junior and 19.1 as a senior.
On a Nike amateur circuit this summer, Carter played for the New York City Rocks and averaged 12.7 points in 16 games. Carter joins Michael Carter III, Jaylen Nowell and Nate Pryor in Washington’s 2017-18 recruiting class.
