Hameir Wright, a 6-foot-8 small forward from Albany, NY., has signed with the University of Washington, men’s basketball coach Mike Hopkins announced Friday. Wright has enrolled in summer classes and will be eligible to play for the Huskies in the fall.

“We’re really excited to have Hameir join our program,” said Hopkins. “His ability to shoot the ball at his size and stretch the floor is what’s really special about him. He can not only shoot from the perimeter but he can go low and block shots and score around the rim. He has a high basketball IQ and is going to be a great foundation for this class.”

Judged a four star player by recruiting services, Wright attended Albany Academy, was named the 2017 Gatorade New York Player of the Year and was a Class A Player of the Year as a junior and a senior. During his senior season, Wright averaged 16.7 points, 9.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.9 blocks while leading his squad win the Class A Federation Tournament Championship. Wright was also named the MVP of the Federation Championships as a junior.

Wright joins Michael Carter III,  Jaylen Nowell, Nahziah Carter and Nate Pryor in Washington’s 2017 recruiting class.

  1. Just picture Michael Porter Jr as a Husky this season. Or Blake Harris. Or Noah Dickerson.
