In need of cornerback help in the wake of the season-ending Achilles tendon injury to Richard Sherman Thursday in Arizona, the Seahawks plan to audition former Legion of Boom member Byron Maxwell Monday at the VMAC. The 29-year-old Maxwell, who made 17 starts for Seattle in 2013-14, is a free agent who most recently played for the Miami Dolphins.
A sixth-round pick by the Seahawks in 2011, Maxwell departed after the 2014 season to sign a six-year, $63 million deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. Maxwell lasted only a year with the Eagles, who traded him in a package to the Dolphins in March 2016, in exchange for Miami’s first pick in the 2016 draft.
Maxwell started 13 games for Miami last year, but the club released him on Oct. 24 this season.
Maxwell recently worked out for the Atlanta Falcons, who will play Seattle a week from Monday at CenturyLink Field. According to reports, the Seahawks will also take a look at Trovon Reed, who has spent time on the team’s practice squad.
The Seahawks have four cornerbacks: Jeremy Lane, rookie Shaquill Griffin, Justin Coleman and Neiko Thorpe, primarily a special teams player. Another corner, DeShawn head, is on the physically unable to perform list recovering from ACL surgery.

The word on Maxwell is that he’s lost a step and a half. But he’s familiar with the team and philosophies. They can also promote Akeem King or Mike Tyson from the practice squad.
An experienced player that knows the scheme can compensate for the lost speed – at least in comparison to a young player that may be faster but does NOT know the scheme.
That said, I think I would be a little surprised if they sign him.
