The Seahawks Monday acquired CB C.J. Smith from the Cleveland Browns for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2020. Smith, 24, doesn’t have much experience, having entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2016. He played in 10 games with the Philadelphia Eagles last year as a reserve, and three more with the Browns, who announced the trade.
The 5-foot-11, 188-pound Smith played his college ball at North Dakota State. The trade is dependent on whether Smith makes Seattle’s roster.
The Seahawks released CBs Richard Sherman and Jeremy Lane prior to the free agent signing period and have yet to come to terms with Byron Maxwell. The trade for Smith is about adding depth to the position.
The Seahawks hosted former quarterback and now wide receiver Terrelle Pryor Monday. If Pryor doesn’t sign with Seattle, he will visit the New York Jets later this week.
They seek to have an interview with five-time All-Pro DT Ndamukong Suh, released by the Miami Dolphins, later in the week if Suh doesn’t first sign with the Los Angeles Rams, the team he visited Monday.

Trading a 7th rounder for a formerly undrafted player who hasn’t played much doesn’t seem to balance out.

What’s even more perplexing is that the Browns were going to cut Smith according to that story.
