The bi-coastal relationship continues to flourish: Toronto FC vs. the Sounders on a third date at the MLS Cup. This time it’s at Seattle’s place.

Toronto, the Eastern Conference’s No. 4 seed, secured the tickets to the title match Wednesday with a 2-1 win over homestanding Atlanta United, the No. 2 seed and defending MLS champs.

The Sounders, No. 2 in the West, won the right to host by having th higher seed, following the 3-1 win in the Western Conference final Tuesday in LA. That means the underdogs each stunned the higher seeds on on the road.

The title match at the Clink and its 69,000 seats is booked noon Sunday, Nov. 10. Prepare to gird the loins.

The Sounders have split a pair of titles with the Reds, both in Toronto. In 2016, the Sounders won on penalty kicks after a scoreless draw in frigid conditions at BMO Field. in 2017, Toronto prevailed, 2-0. Atlanta interrupted the relationship by beating the Portland Timbers in 2018.
Journeyman midfielder Nick DeLeon scored Toronto’s game-winner in the 78th minute.

  1. Atlanta blew this one, plain and simple. If Josef Martinez converts that penalty, it’s 2-0 early, the huge Atlanta crowd is going bonkers, and Toronto is too deep in a hole. As it turned out, TFC hit two fantastic strikes (one had a 3 percent chance of scoring, the stats say), Atlanta couldn’t find the equalizer, and for some reason they only use one substitute. Curious.

  2. Does anybody know off hand how much the 300 level seats are going to be priced at for this match?

    • I just looked and I saw $375 as the lowest price. Yikes! Did they forget a decimal maybe?

I would not pay that much, unless maybe they agreed to fabricate dirt on Joe Biden’s son for me.

  3. This is something the Sounders have been wanting to bring to Seattle for a long time. It’s going to be one giant party that weekend.
