The Seattle Seahawks Friday released defensive end Monte Taylor and signed linebacker Kyle Knox. Both moves came one day after the conclusion of a mandatory, three-day minicamp, the team’s final get together before the start of training camp late next month.

Knox started 37 of 46 career games at Fresno State, posting 215 tackles (115 solo) and 4.5 sacks in his career. He collected 55 tackles (33 solo) last season and had a career-high 74 stops (37 solo) during his junior season.

The Seahawks signed Taylor as a rookie free agent following the NFL Draft April 28.

All three candidates to start at quarterback received equal opportunities to showcase their stuff. Tarvaris Jackson, the incumbent, took most of the snaps Tuesday. Matt Flynn, the presumed starter in 2012, received the bulk of the work Wednesday, and rookie draft pick Russell Wilson took the majority of snaps Thursday.

Head coach Pete Carroll said nothing has been settled.

“You’re just going to have to suck it up and wait,” he said. “It’s going to take us until we start playing games to where we’ll see something happen. At this point, they’re (the three quarterbacks) are doing everything they can with the opportunities, and they look good.”

The Seahawks play their first preseason game Aug. 11 at CenturyLink Field against the Tennessee Titans, who have their own quarterback battle going, former Seahawk Matt Hasselbeck vs. former Washington Husky Jake Locker.

The Seahawks open the regular season Sept. 9 at Arizona and play their first home game Sept. 16 against the Dallas Cowboys.
