Forward Eddie Johnson will miss Sounders home matches June 1 at Chivas USA and June 8 vs. Vancouver while he participates in three 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Jamaica (June 7), Panama (June 11) and Honduras (June 18). CenturyLink Field will host the June 11 match against Panama.

“To wear the U.S. National Team jersey in front of Seattle fans will be an unbelievable experience for me,” Johnson said. “I’m honored and privileged to have this opportunity.”

Johnson, 29, has 48 caps and 14 goals for the U.S. He helped the team advance to round four of qualifying with two goals and one assist against Antigua/Barbuda and Guatemala last October. Johnson has appeared in all three hexagonal games for the U.S., and has 10 career goals in qualifying to his credit, tied for second all-time with Brian McBride.

In second place in the final round of qualifying, the U.S. could earn as many as nine points in the trio of qualifiers. The team is riding a 21-0-2 unbeaten streak at home in World Cup qualifying, having beaten Costa Rica 1-0 win before earning a point in qualifying in Mexico for only the second time in team history.

Johnson is available at 7:30 p.m. Saturday when the Sounders host FC Dallas at CenturyLink Field.

Don’t know whether to be proud or frustrated. As much as it’s great to see a Sounder playing for the national team, the club sure needs him for as many matches as possible.
