WR Stephen Williams, who had an impressive preseason to become the fifth receiver on the 53-man squad but had no catches in four regular-season games, was cut Saturday by the Seahawks to make room for LB Bruce Irvin, who is returning from a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy. The, 6-5, 208-pound Williams played his first two seasons at Arizona, where he had nine catches in 11 games before being injured. He was signed by the Seahawks in Jan. 31. He played 52 snaps for the Seahawks but didn’t register a stat.

Seattle also released DT Sealver Siliga from the practice squad and re-signed DT  D’Anthony Smith, who was cut earlier, in his place.

The Seahawks are in Indianpolis, where they will play the 3-1 Colts at 10 a.m. Sunday.

You know Harbaugh will pick up one of them. Probably Williams. Surprised he was let go.

I’m a little vague on this, but couldn’t the Seahawks have simply placed Williams directly on their practice squad without having to cut/waive him? I understand NFL teams are free to poach other teams’ practice squads without having to compensate them, but Williams looked DAMNED good in the preseason and it’s not as though Seattle’s roster has a lot of receivers with size. I would’ve kept him on the practice squad…just in case…
