Huskies 25th In Final AP College Football Poll

Unranked since a three-game, midseason losing streak to No. 5 Stanford, No. 9 Oregon and Arizona State, the Washington Huskies finished 25th in the final Associated Press college football poll released Tuesday. This is the first time UW has ended a season with a national ranking since 2001, when the Huskies were 21st. Washington is one of six Pac-12 schools ranked in the final AP poll.

Oregon finished ninth, followed by No. 11 Stanford, No. 16 UCLA, No. 19 USC, No. 21 Arizona State and No. 25 Washington.

Florida State, which capped an undefeated season Monday night by defeating Auburn 34-31 in the final BCS Championship game, finished No. 1 with the Tigers No. 2.

Washington, with interim head coach Marques Tuiasosopo replacing Steve Sarkisian, who bolted for USC, concluded its season Dec. 27 with a 31-16 victory over Brigham Young in the Fight Hunger Bowl in San Francisco.

The Huskies entered the 2013 national rankings at No. 19 following their 38-6 season-opening victory over then-No. 19 Boise State. Washington climbed to 15th after hammering Arizona 31-13 Sept. 28, but fell out of the rankings after getting blown out by Arizona State 53-24 Oct. 19.

Although Washington won four of its final five regular-season games, the victories came against non-ranked opponents and were not impressive enough to push UW back into the rankings. But the victory over unranked BYU in the Fight Hunger Bowl nudged the Huskies to No. 25.

Wish the Pac-12 had a better showing in the top 10. Getting tired of college football being dominated by the same conferences. Yeah, I’m looking at you SEC. Nice to see Tui close out the year with a #25 ranking.
