Seahawks release LS Gresham, sign LB Pinkins

The Seahawks Wednesday released veteran long snapper Clint Gresham, a move that was somewhat unexpected since Graham signed a three-year, $2.7 million extension one year ago. The move, though, will save Seattle approximately $660,000 against the salary cap in 2016.

Simultaneously, the Seahawks signed exclusive rights free agent Eric Pinkins, a sixth-round draft pick out of San Diego State in 2014. Pinkins, 24, appeared in six games for Seattle in 2015, spending the majority on special teams. He could potentially compete for a starting linebacker slot with Bruce Irvin having signed with Oakland as a free agent.

Gresham, 29, played in 108 regular-season and playoff games since joining the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of Texas Christian in 2010. He also played in both of Seattle’s Super Bowls.

The Seahawks signed former Vanderbilt long snapper Adam East to a futures contract in January.

A bit worrisome in some respects. I recall in ’85 how backup QB and kick holder Jim Zorn was cut in a money saving move and how that affected kicker Norm Johnson. He never duplicated his ’84 Pro Bowl season after that move and the team went thru a number of holders, including Steve Largent. Hope Clint’s career continues elsewhere.
