Seahawks re-sign FB Tukuafu, waive Amosa

The Seahawks Sunday re-signed FB Will Tukuafu, who shared that position in each of the past two seasons, and waived FB Jonathan Amosa, a former University of Washington and Rainier Beach High standout who signed with Seattle Aug. 6.

Tukuafu, 32, spent his first four seasons with the San Francisco 49ers before signing with the Seahawks in 2014. He has appeared in 23 games with Seattle over the past two seasons, starting three. Last year, Tukuafu shared fullback duties with Derrick Coleman, and both became free agents following the season.

Seattle has been looking for for fullback help. They brought in former UW defensive lineman Tani Tupou as well as ex-USC running back Tre Madden and Brandon Cottom, a former tight end and two-year vet from Purdue. All have been injured. Amosa played in both of the first two preseason games.

The 32-year-old Tukuafu, a University of Oregon graduate, had a workout with the Seahawks two weeks ago. Last year, he carried four times for one yard and scored a rushing touchdown against Arizona Nov. 15. He also caught a seven-yard TD pass from Russell Wilson against the Cardinals Jan. 3 in Seattle’s final regular-season game.

The Seahawks, 1-1 in preseason, host the Dallas Cowboys at CenturyLink Field at 7 p.m. Thursday (Fox KCPQ 13).
