The Seahawks continued their roster tweaks Sunday by claiming DT Garrison Smith, a 6-foot-1, 300 pounder from the University of Georgia who has no NFL game experience, off waivers from the San Francisco 49ers. To make room on the 53-man roster, set Saturday when Seattle made 24 cuts and two trades, the team waived DT Justin Hamilton.
Smith, expected to help fill a void left by the Saturday cuts of DTs Jordan Hill and Sealver Siliga, is the second 49er to join the Seahawks in two days. Saturday, they traded an undisclosed draft pick for safety Dewey McDonald.
Also Sunday, two players released by Seattle Saturday found new homes. RB Troymaine Pope, who led Seattle in rushing during the preseason, was claimed by the New York Jets and CB Marcus Burley was picked up by the Cleveland Browns. None of the other players released by Seattle Saturday have been claimed.
Along with Hill, who was waived/injured Saturday, OL Terry Poole, TE Joe Sommers and LB Eric Pinkins all were placed on Seattle’s injured reserve Sunday. Players on the list can’t return this season, but can accept an injury settlement and move on.
The exception is that each team can designate one player for a return after eight weeks. That may be an option for Hill, a four-year vet who had groin and hamstring injuries that limited him in preseason.
Smith spent the past two years on the 49ers’ practice squad. He has also spent time on the Miami Dolphins and New Orleans Saints practice squads.
The Seahawks will now begin filling out their practice squad. Former Huskies WR star Kasen Williams is one of six players officially on that 10-man unit as of Sunday evening, along with DL Tylor Harris (waived Saturday), WR Kenny Lawler (seventh-round pick waived Saturday), LB Kache Palacio (waived Saturday), OL Will Pericak (waived Saturday) and WR Rodney Smith (ex-Dallas).
Reports have the Seahawks close to adding OL Robert Myers (ex-Denver), TE Marcus Lucas (ex-Carolina) and LB Jordan Tripp (ex-Jacksonville).

Hill is now on Seahawks IR or has he simply been waive?. Is there a chance for him to get the IR designated to return spot? I loved this player when healthy!
