The Mariners Thursday activated Felix Hernandez from the disabled list and penciled him in to start Thursday night’s series finale against the Texas Rangers in Arlington. The 31-year-old Hernandez, 5-4 with a 4.28 ERA in 13 starts this season, has been on DL since Aug. 2 with right shoulder bursitis.
In eight starts prior to going on the DL for the second time this season (also April 26-June 23), Hernandez was 3-2 with a 4.02 ERA with 47 strikeouts and 18 walks.
The 6-foot-3, 225-pound right-hander is coming off three rehab starts with AAA Tacoma, going 2-0 with a 4.15 ERA with 16 strikeouts and three walks.
In parts of 13 seasons with the Mariners, Hernandez is 159-113 with a 3.19 ERA and 2,333 strikeouts in 372 career starts. He recorded his 2,300th career strikeout July 4 vs. Kansas City, becoming the 50th pitcher in MLB history to reach that milestone.
Hernandez is the Mariners all-time leader in wins, starts (372), quality starts (246), innings pitched (2489.1) and strikeouts (2,333).
Hernandez will oppose RHP Andrew Cashner (9-9, 3.18). The Mariners (73-73), who have 18 runs on 26 hits in their past two games, both wins, are 3.5 games behind the Minnesota Twins for the second American League wild card berth.

At $20+mm it’s a shame the guy hasn’t figured out how to get himself in shape and stay that way. You would think guys on the team would straighten him out.
