University of Washington receivers coach Brent Pease was fired Friday by head coach Chris Petersen, who had Pease on staff at Boise State from 2006-11 as offensive coodinator. Also Friday, Jeff Choate, assistant in charge of the defensive line and special teams, was hired as head coach at Montana State of the Big Sky Conference.

The Mariners Friday traded RHP Jose Ramirez to the Atlanta Braves for a player to be named later (PTBNL) and cash considerations. The 25-year-old Ramirez went 1-0 with an 11.57 ERA in five relief appearances with Seattle last season after being recalled from AAA Tacoma Sept. 1.

The Mariners Wednesday claimed INF Andy Wilkins from the Baltimore Orioles and designated LHP Edgar Olmos for assignment in order to make room for Wilkins on the 40-man roster. The Mariners also said C John Hicks, designated for assignment Nov. 23, has been claimed off waivers by the Minnesota Twins.
Nori Aoki, a free-agent outfielder whose career was briefly threatened in August after being struck in the head by a pitch, cutting short his season, will be signed by the Mariners to a one-year deal with an option for a second, according to several media reports. Aoki first must pass a physical exam.
