January 13, 2011: Pete Carroll’s Playing with House Money and He Knows It

Gotta hand it to Pete Carroll, he’s enjoying the hell out of this. When he’s not begging top comedians to support the Hawks or tweeting “Song of the Day” choices to his billionaire boss, he’s hijacking reporters’ phones and saying hilarious stuff. Can’t remember a Seattle sports coach who had this much fun — let alone a football coach.

Chuck Knox had a song of the day. Same one every day…the sound of teeth grinding together.

Carroll did say one thing of note: He said he wants Matt Hasselbeck back with the Seahawks next year. Don’t know if I can take it. Not Hasselbeck, but the avalanche of “Matt’s done, bench him now” vitriol bound to start up again approximately 1 incomplete pass into the 2011 season. Well, fans might be more lenient if Hasselbeck leads the Seahawks back to the Super Bowl. In that case, the boos would begin after 2 incomplete passes.

The MLS draft is today at 9 a.m. I expect the Sounders to take some guy I’ve never heard of. That’s because I’ve never heard of anyone in the MLS draft…check Stanley Holmes’ coverage on our Sounders page for a draft preview and coverage of the new Sounders.

The Huskies hyped the announcement of their first opponent in new Husky Stadium! And that opponent is…Boise State! The average Husky fan’s reaction? This three-second music clip sums it up.

    What they’re saying…

“Boise state is a high level BCS school? I’d rather of seen another SEC or Big 10 team.” — @ymmij2k

“Can they install a purple field with gold lines?” — @LimerickThugsta

“I think Seattle will not select a goal keeper with its No. 1 pick despite Kasey Keller‘s planned retirement at the end of the season. A rookie keeper will not help the Sounders achieve their stated intention — winning a championship.” — Stanley Holmes, SPNW

    In other news…

The Husky hoopsters play Stanford today with the cloud of sexual assault allegations hanging over the team. The full roster is practicing, will travel, and presumably will be available to play.

UW/Stanford will not be televised. Matthew Bryan-Amaning and Aziz N’Diaye should have a dunkfest against Stanford’s substandard front line.

Marshawn Lynch has some advice for you in the event of future Beastquakes: “Don’t be up under somethin’.” Video!

Seattle hip hoppeners Macklemore and Ryan Lewis released a video of their Dave Niehaus tribute song, My Oh My. Do not watch at work without Kleenex.

Killing time? Today’s pick: The six-minute NFL Films Sound FX video highlights from the Saints/Seahawks game.

    Today’s action…

    MLS draft, 9 a.m. (ESPN2)
    Pac-10 hoops: UCLA @ Oregon St., 5 p.m. (FSN)
WCC hoops: Pepperdine @ Gonzaga, 6 p.m. (Universal Sports)
    Indy hoops: Seattle U @ Utah Valley, 6 p.m. (710-AM)
    Pac-10 hoops: Washington @ Stanford, 7 p.m. (950-AM)
    Pac-10 hoops: USC @ Oregon, 7:30 p.m. (FSN)
    Pac-10 hoops: Wazzu @ Cal, 7:30 p.m. (850-AM)

You’d think from the writers comment about the sports ‘fan’s’ presupposed reaction from the Zen-Master’s (the just retired Laker coach) favorite protégé, Carroll, that the NW fan, from the Seattle area are mostly comprised of NY/Boston type fan wannabees.  bitch, bitch, bitch!  Gimme-a-break!  85% of this backwater logging town’s population still go down to Howie (the ultimate traitor’s) house every day to sniff and suck on their fav coffee bean  and pastry combo for a price of $12.99 and never watched or attended a sports game here, or even understand the meaning of such, and the remainder still pronounce ‘Hasselbeck’ as Hass-el-back, (like in, (BACK) including all the live media broadcast sports announcers.  Gimmee ‘mama blue’, she knows what’s true!

Go Seattle Ranier’s, (or was they once called the Pilots).  And RIP Bill Muncey.  Seahawks!  Never heard of that bird.  Do they eat minnows?
