Exit 164: Mariners Power Outage Continues

Mariners Homerless Yet Again: You’ll notice a common feature of every Mariner linescore. “Home Runs – SEA: None.” The Mariners have not hit a home run since Tuesday. Given that most of the pitchers they’re facing are either minor leaguers or established pitchers tuning up for the regular season, I find this troubling.

Miguel Olivo Injured: The free-agent catcher suffered a groin injury Saturday while running the bases. He had to be taken to the clubhouse on a cart. Olivo had an MRI Sunday, but since no doctor can be troubled to do any work on their day of yachting rest, we won’t know the severity of the injury until sometime today. We do know Olivo will be resting for at least a week. Adam Moore is the only other catcher on the M’s 40-man roster, though former MLB starter Josh Bard is in camp as an NRI.

Huskies/Cougars III: Despite losing to USC Saturday, The Dawgs are the #3 seed in the Pac-10 Tournament and will play Washington State at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougs have beaten the Huskies twice this year. The big question will be whether Klay Thompson, who was cited for marijuana possession Thursday and took the mic to apologize to fans before Saturday’s game, will be permitted to play.

Most bracket experts seem to think the Huskies will still make the NCAA tourney, but they are definitely no lock.

Bedard Impresses Again: The mysterious one threw two more no-hit innings Saturday, striking out four. I am now officially upgrading the Erik Bedard Threat Level to ELEVATED.

State Hoops Champions Crowned: Lakes of Tacoma beat Bellevue to win the 3A title, and Gonzaga Prep beat Curtis for the 4A crown. Here’s full scores for all the tourney action.

Sounders 0-2 in Cascadia Cup: In the inaugural Cascadia Cup exhibition series, the Sounders dropped games against Portland and Vancouver in Tukwila.

Both Felix Hernandez and Michael Pineda will pitch today for the M’s.

Former Husky and Seahawk star Jerramy Stevens was arrested in Florida for assaulting two bouncers at… Duke’s Retired Surfer’s Island Bar. Perfect.

Enjoyed this headline in the Philippine Star: “Griffey Says Size Doesn’t Matter.”

Sounders MF Mike Fucito suffered a hip muscle pull in Sunday’s game vs. Vancouver. The extent of the injury won’t be known until today.

Seattle U men’s hoops lost to Idaho, 78-69. The Redhawks’ Sterling Carter had 18 in the first half, but then didn’t score in the second.
