Huskies Open Pac-12 Slate With 3 On Road

Lorenzo Romar’s University of Washington basketball team, minus recent first-round NBA draft picks Terrence Ross and Tony Wroten, will open its Pac-12 season with three road games, starting with a Jan. 5, 2013 contest at Washington State. After stops at California Jan. 9 and Stanford Jan. 12, the Huskies come home for games against Colorado Jan. 16 and Utah Jan. 19.

The Colorado and Utah games will mark the first appearance of those schools at Alaska Airlines Arena as members of the Pac-12. The Buffaloes and Utes did not play in Seattle in 2011-12, their first year as members of the league.

Washington’s Pac-12 road trip comes immediately after a Dec. 29 game at the University of Connecticut, which will end the non-conference portion of the Huskies’ schedule.

Washington, last year’s regular-season Pac-12 champion, starts its non-conference slate in the Hall of Fame Classic, which starts Nov. 11 with the Huskies hosting Loyola-Maryland. During the tournament, UW will also play Albany (Nov. 13), Seton Hall (Nov. 17) and either Ohio State or Rhode Island (Nov. 18).

Washington has non-conference home rematches with Saint Louis (Nov. 28) and Nevada (Dec. 8). Washington lost to both last year on the road.

Notable about the conference schedule: Washington will not play at Colorado or Utah this season, nor will it host California or Stanford. Also, the Huskies will play five of their final seven contests on their home court, ending with UCLA March 9.

The Pac-12 Tournament, from which Washington was bounced last season that led to an NCAA Tournament snub, gets underway March 13.

The Huskies will embark upon asummer tour of Europe and Senegal starting Aug. 25.

I hope the injury bug doesn’t bite both of our football teams any more this fall. Would hate to see either season derailed.

J.R. Sweezy actually spent his college career at North Carolina State, not at Florida.

Um, yeah. NC State. Fixed. Thanks.
