    First round of cuts trims Mariners’ roster to 55

    The Mariners dismissed 13 players from their big-league camp roster Wednesday morning in the first round of roster cuts. The club has 55 in big-league camp with the regular season less than four weeks away.

    Left-handed pitcher Danny Hultzen, the No. 2 pick in the 2011 MLB amateur draft, was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma, where he’ll continue to rehab his surgically repaired throwing shoulder with the hope of returning healthy for the 2015 season.

    The club optioned pitcher Anthony Fernandez and outfielder Julio Morban to Double-A Jackson. The other 10 were assigned to minor-league camp, which begins Wednesday at the team’s newly remodeled spring training facility in Peoria. The list:

    Pitchers: Jonathan Arias, Andrew Carraway, Stephen Kohlscheen, Mark Rogers, Chance Ruffin, James Gillheeney

    Catchers: John Hicks, Manuel Pina

    Infielder: Gabriel Noriega

    Outfielder: Burt Reynolds

    The remaining players in big-league camp includes 28 pitchers, five catchers, 13 infielders and nine outfielders. Eighteen are non-roster invitees, dentified here in bold.

    RHPs: Scott Baker, Logan Bawcom, Blake Beavan, Danny Farquhar, Felix Hernandez, Hisashi Iwakuma, Logan Kensing, Dominic Leone, Brandon Maurer, Yoervis Medina, Zach Miner, Hector Noesi, Matt Palmer, Stephen Pryor, Erasmo Ramirez, Ramon Ramirez, Fernando Rodney, Carson Smith, Taijuan Walker and Tom Wilhelmsen.

    LHPs: Joe Beimel, Roenis Elias, Charlie Furbush, Nick Hill, Bobby LaFromboise, Lucas Luetge, James Paxton, Randy Wolf.

    C: John Buck, Mike Dowd, Humberto Quintero, Jesus Sucre, Mike Zunino.

    Infielders: Willie Bloomquist, Robinson Cano, Ji-Man CHoi, Nick Franklin, Ty Kelly, Brad Miller, Jesus Montero, Logan Morrison, Kyle Seager, Justin Smoak, Chris Taylor, Nate Tenbrink, Carlos Triunfel.

    Outfielders: Dustin Ackley, Abraham Almonte, Xavier Avery, Endy Chavez, Cole Gillespie, Corey Hart, James Jones, Stefen Romero, Michael Saunders.
