Spring odds: Mariners 7/1 to win flag; Zags 12/1

Thousands of college basketball fans from the Northwest will soon be making their way to Las Vegas for the Pac-12 Conference, West Coast Conference and Western Athletic Conference tournaments. A good portion of those fans will take advantage of the opportunity to bet on pretty much anything and everything in sports while they’re in Sin City.

The oddsmakers already predict a rematch for the Super Bowl participants. Defending champion New England is the 5/1 favorite to prevail over second-rated Seattle (6/1).

The Seattle Mariners are given 7/1 odds to win the American League pennant and 15/1 odds to win the World Series. Only the Los Angeles Angels (18/5) are bigger favorites in the AL. In World Series odds, the Mariners are tied for seventh with defending champion San Francisco at 15/1.

The Washington Nationals are the 13/2 favorites to win the World Series. Golden State (4/1) is the pick in the NBA. Vegas likes Chicago (9/2) in the NHL, Kentucky (4/5) in college basketball, Rory McElroy (4/1) in The Masters, Jimmie Johnson (5/1) in the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Ohio State (4/1) in college football.

Gonzaga is given 12/1 odds on winning the national championship in basketball. Washington is just a wee bit of an underdog at 9999/1 (tied for last among the 100 teams listed). Of course, if Washington wins it all, you’ll be $1 million richer if you place a $100 wager on the Huskies.

The Huskies are given a better chance, but not much of one, of winning the football championship (100/1). Sorry, Washington State fans, but the Cougars aren’t one of the 60 teams Las Vegas bothered to list.

Newly acquired Mariner Nelson Cruz faces 50/1 odds on repeating as the major league home run champion. Oh, and if you just can’t resist laying down some dough on the 2018 World Cup of men’s soccer, Germany is a 5/1 favorite to repeat as champion. The U.S.? Try 50/1.

Funny, but also a sad commentary that I would totally believe some bookie in Vegas has one of those weird side bets (whatever they’re called) for that.

She is a great player with an amazing story, but a lot of issues going on there. Sincerely hope she can avoid complete self-destruction.
